Shankar - Please tell rock gharana mentor, "Jai Mahadi, lets rock". himesh tells Aditya, Say thank you. We are not talking because there will be unnecessary fight. Shankar tells Aditya. Tell him, I am fully flattered and thank you.Shankar says, Zaheer, you did a great rap. It was amazing.Sureshji, he is a big fan of yours and so I request Zaheer to sing for Sureshji. Zaheer sings aur kyaa yeh dewafa. Shankar says, Cute singh, you will become a big king.. Manisha, you also sang well.

Pritam - Jai Matadi, Lets rock. All 3 of you were superb. Rock gharana rocked today.

Aadesh - Zaheer - Jhakaar, Survinder - Superb. Manisha - mindblowing.

Himesh - You all hit sixer today. You need to perform 100 times better than this and prove yourself.

Sureshji - Superb, fantastic, mindblowing. Whoever has done proper riyaz in classical singing, they can sing any song.

Ghulam Ali sahab - You need to concentrate on lai and sur. You all were good, but you need to hit the right notes as well.

LAKSHYA GHARANA

Naina Saxena - Khwab Dekhe

Kaushik Deshpande - One Love

Sara Raza Khan - Golmal Title Song

Comments:

Aadesh - All are singing very good.. He has given good training.. Naina, you have crystal voice.. Kaushik, amongst male contestants, you are very good.. Sara, you sang the whole song very well..

Himesh - Superb, Fantastic, Outstanding and mindblowing..

Pritam - You all did very very well.. Let me see whats written in Pritam Puran... Kaushik, do you have a special friend?? He says yes.. Pritam says, the girl wants to ask When will you reduce your tummy.. Kaushik replies, I didn't see her and love her.. So, I just want to convey that dont see my tummy.. Your voice is totally fit for RnB.. Im going to use you for such songs.. Naina, very good.. There is rap, male and female part.. You did very well.. Sara, you were very good..

Shankar - You all did complete justice with this genre.. I am proud of you..

Aditya tells Ghulam Ali sahab.. You were the one to audition in Pakistan and select Sara.. How do you feel?? You sang in sur with feeling.. Kaushik, I never thought he will involve himself so much.. Naina, Whatever she sings, it will sound nice.

Sureshji - I have listened to you all before and I feel that you all have done justice to all the songs.

Sara - I am so happy that Khan sahab selected me in Pakistan. There are so many good people in the world and they are the ones who get direct place in our heart.

DHOOM GHARANA

Mitika Kanwar - Come To Me

Arshad Mohammad - Toh Pape Pyaar

Comments:

Himesh - Arshad, tell some dialogue in tapori style.. He tells something.. You sang very well.. You are a good singer but you will sing this well in genre, that was something which came in as a surprise.. Mitika, Its not easy to sing all 3 voices in one song.. You did extremely well..

Aadesh - You both were very good.. You all should sing in studio..

Shankar - Arshad, You were Rapchik.. Mitika, There is one singer Bobby in west and you sang just like him.. There was falsetto, male part, female part.. everything was perfect..

Pritam - Arshad, the attitude with which you sang the rap really surprised.. You always make me proud.. For Mitika he says, There is one guy from Chandigargh on whom she has a crush.. She replies, I cant reveal anything right now.. But will definitely reveal it later..

Suresji - Arshad, very nice.. You can sing all songs from any genre.. Mitika, I felt like Female Abhishek is singing..

Ghulam Ali sahab - They both got involved in the songs which was the highlight.

JAI HO GHARANA

Deepali - Ek Ajnabee

Sayan - Tu Hein Meri Soniye

Comments:

Shankar - Very good Sayan.. You had to sing rap in low notes.. It was not fantastic, but good..

Pritam - You could have taken the rap a octave higher.. It was ok..

Himesh - You could have done better.. We have lot of expectations from you...

Aadesh - Ghee ka ladoo teda ho jaaye toh uska swaad nahin bhigadta.. Dont try if its not in your range.. You cant try now as its a risky thing to do.

Sureshji - Your attempt was good.. When you have 100% expectations and you give 99% then too we start expecting that 1%.

Ghulam Ali sahab - This did not fit in your range.. You should keep singing and practicing as you are a good singer.

Result:

Sayan & Manisha get eliminated.

Thanks.

I really like the mahagurus. they were really awesome. Both yesterday and today. they eliminated the right people. Sayon should not be given any more chances...IMO. he really HAD to go, sooner or later.
manisha I think has a lot of potential, but VERY inconsistent. her voice quality is very different though

Mitika and naina rocked as usual. They, along with pratinbha, are the top female talents in this show.
Mitika has her original voice and style, and is very hardworking.Pratibha at the opposite end of the spectrum is classicaly trained and polished. In between, naina has typical playback voice and can sing all types of songs. These 3 are gonna be in top 10, hopefully!

I loved sunvinder's performance today. He aboslutely rocked it. And that deshpande guy who sang shaan's song 'one love' (originally blues' sondtrack) was mindblwoing. he has abeautiful voice. Ahamad was fab as usual
well this show is really picking up. all, except sayon, gave a memorable performance

@goofy
Do watch mitika's performance. She was awesome! Thse punjabi girls- himani, arshpreet, mitika- have their unique styles. i find Mitika a welcome change from the monotony of saccharine-sweet voices. also i think this girl is very hardworking. sh was a topper in class, and has carried forth taht perfectionist streak

Among the boys, Ahma is emerging as my clear favourite. thsi guy can sing all kinds of songs. hope he is not limited to 'tapori' style songs. He also has a very original voice quality

Sunvinder's voice is more mainstream, he has the ability to carry a soulful streak which is very refreshing, but at the same time thisniche already has many singers like shaan, kk(among professional singers) and Amit paul among reality show stars. I mean to say, its not a unique voice. Just like naina's sin't. But I think sunvincder and naina are capable of doing playback

Nichiro said...

Neel,goofy ,

Actually today's performance belonged to Mitika.

She is just amazing girl with surprises locked away in her voice.
Today she removed the rug from under everyone's feet. What a performance 'come to me'. She sang in three voices plus the chorus part.All were different voices.

I was sad to see Sayon and Ms. Karmakar go. Do I smell something which is not right?
Both the contestants were from Calcutta.

I thought Ms. Sathe's performance was weakest among girls today. But since Sara is selected by Gulam Ali, Sathe is from Suresh wadkar's state, both cannot be eliminated.
So the sword fell on these two contestants.

Again this is My Conjucture.

What say you guys?

Another case of Mad elimination I saw on EK SE BADHKAR EK"

Aneek and Syantani (Both from Bengal) who were the strongest contenders to the crown were eliminated. And the vote to eliminate them was cast by none other than crazy judge Abhijeet.

The producers wanted the contest finals to be fought between Abhishek Avasthi (Item girl Rakhi Sawant's boy friend) and Kushal Punjabi.

It was a sad day for Bengal.

I don't know why, but I did not like Mitika's performance. In fact, I didn't like her any of the performances. But Sayon and Manisha rightly eliminated though. But to me, if the third one from the bottom to be eliminated, it would have been Mitika.

Naina really is a very good singer. Please don't compare her with Mitika. Mitika will be eliminated very early after the voting starts...for sure!!!

jatin said...

Hemant,

For the first time I watched saregamapa for 1 hour. As the theme was Hip Hop, i got interested. Sunvinder simply rocked.Hemant Bhai, you were right about him. Good thing is that Himesh is supporting him just like Aneek. This is a good omen for him. This Singh can really become Kinng!!

Naina & Kaushik also gave brilliant performance. However Mitika dint impress me at all. The girl has loads of attitude plus her singing was not too good either.

jatin said...

Neelakshi,

You are right. The presentation and packaging of Saregamapa is much better compared to SVOI2.

But the best thing i liked was that the great aadesh shrivastav looked totally sidelined, as he is a dwarf in front of three heavyweights like Pritam da, Himesh & Shankar Mahadevan.

Pritam Da became quite excited when Sunvinder was singing his song "Singh is Kinng". Pritam Da looked cute and funny at the same time.

jatin said...

Wishing all of you a "Happy Janmashtami". May Lord Krishna shower you all with his blessings.

Nichiro said...

siddhartha,

Thaanks for your candid views on Mitika's performances.

Jatin,

In my opinion Sunvinder;s performance was good but this boy who started singing barely an year and half ago , can sing out of this world. Just hear him in older episodes.

His voice seems deceptively "Main stream" as someone remarked but given complicated songs, I think he would prove his mettle.

Friends,

I saw SVOIC and can now say that gajji is using his old and ghisi piti tricks to promote the show.
A man on crutches who moves slower than a snail (actually people on crutches can move faster than normal people) sings all Legendery Rafi saab's songs and murdering them in the process. His tonight's performance was so bad that I could have just beaten him blue had I been there.
Absolutely out of tune, sur went hey wire and pitching was very bad.

On top of it, comes a letter from his son who is 4 years old and that letter is a demand for a cycle. !!!
Gajji , how low can you get?
Making a 4 year old child beg for votes indirectly.Narak mein bhi jagah nahin milegi yaar.

Honestly SVOIC sucks big time now.

Dear Friends,

Happy Janmashtami to all of you. Wish U all best of luck.

@Goofy,

I also admit that Debojeet's yesterdays performance was very good and he is a very strong contestant but not best. IMHO, he has some probs in accents which he should improve. I don't know he will reach to the Grand Finale or not but this time a Bengali contestant is not going to win thats for sure (SRGMP team will not allow this zone to make hat trick.)

@Siddhartha,

Totally agree with you but I would like to add 2 names more beside Naina, "Yashita & Anupama". They are also very good.

@Jatin,

At least this time Aadesh will not gonna do anything silly which he did several times at last year SVOI stage (Especially with Abhijeet and Alka). He knew very well that if he launch any missile against any judge specially against Himesh than he has to receive Nuclear on return.

Hemant Da & Neel,

Mark my words, Shashi Suman will definitely reach to the Grand Finale and who knows, he might win.

Nichiro said...

Antar,

Sashi's path is going to be like Anweshaa's . Bihar and Bengal do not produce votes.

Shashi will be sacrificed during top five position.
Punjab, Maharashtra and UP produce votes and money for the channel.

So IMHO,

Mitika,
Anupama
Sunvinder

Other two might be
Yashita
Shashi

First three will be in top five.
Rest , take your pick.

hemant,bengal does not produce votes?How did debojit from challenge 2005,sachita,aneek,anamika win in zee saregamapa?You must be joking.
I think deepali was weak,but manisha is also not a great singer.
The brahmstra should bring back good conetstants.

Antar said...

Hemant Dada,

Believe me, still there is no chance for any girl to win this years challenge. Thats the way it's going on till now. According to me, only one girl will make to the final five (Depends). Among the 3 finalists two will be from India & one will be from Pakistan, thats for sure. My premonitions says, they will be,

* Shashi Suman
* Sunvinder Singh
* Shujat Ali Khan

(Alternative option for Arshad)

These 3 are really my fav and I will be very happy if any one among them win.

Thanks.

@antar
The girl who will be in top 5 willd ef. be MITIKA. take my word for it. chandigarh will not let its daughter down, and rightly so. For once I am on side of both the punjabis- 17 yr old Sunvinder and 23 yr old Mitika. Both rock!

@hemant da
It was def. a sad day for Bengal, but on another channel an undeserving singer antara walks away with 2'nd highest votes. I think peopela re voting more for her looks, just like they didi for Sumedha kamahe.
I want to see shashi in top 3. But then again, i know it won't happen. bihar is a poor stae and deepali kishore a very good singer and the best in indian idol 3 was sacrificed at 7'th position when she cud have come 1'st. I doubt if poor biharis, who hardly get 2 square meals a day, will vote for shashi. He is one of my favourites though.

As for me, I am not sure about manisha, but sayon def. DESRVED to get eliminated. He just messed up dat song 'aye pappi'. Manisha's voice quality let her down. She has a voice that grates on the ears plus she forgot some lyrics of the song.

i felt very ashamed because this is the first time a bengali contestant has been eliminated by judges, b4 voting even began. But it was fair. However as i said before, the quality is diluting. We don't find the likes of Anwesha and Aneek everyday

Neelakshi said...

@heamnt da

Don't agree with your top 5. Do not see anupamam even in top 12. she was pathetic with Chitra jee's beautiful song 'piya basanti re' and murdered it in the process

i think Naina and Mitika will amke it to top 5 among the girls- vote pulling ability + talent. Poor pratibha, who is also a great singer, will be elimianted when voting starts. Pratibha and Shashi are among the best, but will lose out on votes. Judges iwll supprot them though

Acc to me cute sardar's position in top 3 is GURANTEED. the way zee is hyping debojeet eevn his position iseems to be fixed(he is good, but NOT as good as channel makesout). The thirs in top 3 is more likely to be Mitika than Nian. lets see how it works our.
Mitika is the first good looking girl who also has talent. Priyani and sumedha were pretty faces, and not much talent. But Mitika is someone who is least conscious of her looks, and believes in working hard.

That boy Arshad is damn good. he should amke it to top 5. I don't think any of the pakistani contestants will amke it even to top 6 or 7. None have that abaility which Amanat had last year

Neelakshi said...

@goofy

i agree with you about shujat, but about shashi its all the channel's fault. he is always given poor song selection. A bit like Anu. Still he sings it with poise and talent. The channel knows Bihar is not a vote gathering option and is underrating Shashi. I think the grey area you talked about is realted to choice of song. the guy is def. more comfortable with pure classical and semi-classical songs. He was FANTASTIC with 'naina thag lenge- perhaps even better than Abhas and he has problems with songs that require more style and less substance

Going on to zaheed, he does not impress me muh. Sara is OK but sings in falsetto most of the time. there is a distinct edge to her singing, as if she is about to lose control but doesn't. Found the same quality in Mnaisha's singing.

The channel is trying to cook a love story between mitika and someone. Upto old tricks a susual.

@Antar - No doubt!. Yashita, Naina, Anupama are the best girl candidates. I also think alike you that no girls will be able to win the crown for sure. I think this time Zaheer Abbas has the best potential among the Pakistani singers. Sunvinder is good. But, I think hs voice needs to be little more matured. Its still sounds like a very talented kid. Its kind of Aneek. Personally, I feel that Sunwinder, Zaheer Abbas, Debojit Dutta, Sashi Suman, Yashita/Naina would be in final 5. Lets C...

Unknown said...

But, finally I think it will be "Singh is King"!!! Watch it...

Neelakshi said...

2siddharth and antar

What is so geat about anupama? maybe I missed something...but she was too ordinary. yashita is good, but pratibha is better. In fact if you go singing wise, pratibha is better than naina also...she is techncially more strong,...though naina's voice quality is very soothing. But among the girls, I thought Mitika and manisha had something diff to offer...

It is heartening to note that you people have decided to delete all unsavoury messages from your blog and made it a worth-visiting place. I must be candid in admitting that at the first glance, I thought that it is some ploy by you people (to bring a character called JoJo) to garner more posts and generate viewership of your blog. This was the first thought which came to my mind because Jojo's posts were not getting deleted and they remained there for quite some time leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouth. Thank God, I grossly erred in thinking like that. Later on with subsequent posts, it became clear to me that your other two mods did not have the power of deletion despite being mods. Antar you seem to have invited them as mods and they accepted it also but you forgot to give them the administrator's rights. If you have not already figured out why it is happening so, please go in blog settings, and grant them 'Admin Privileges'. The problem would be resolved.

From the bottom of my heart, I wish success to both these blogs. I won't be contributing much as I am not viewing any of these shows currently and am much into watching Junoon.

Fans of Ishmeet will now be able to hear his only attempt at playback singing with the release of the music album of Punjabi movie "Sat Sri Akal". Ishmeet has sung a Shabad(religous song) in the movie."My heart is full of sorrow and sympathy while saying that it is his first and last playback for any film" said Arvinderjit Singh, the movie's writer at the launch of the album. "Ishmeet has done a great job and we consider the Shabad sung by him, with its immaculate composition and lyrics, the USP of our movie." he added.

neel,

Anupama is definately a capable singer but her better qualification is her "Motherhood" appeal and a "Ladli of her Saas".
Living away from her 10 month old son is a vote garnering tool for the channel.
But having said that, it should not blot the fact that is is a very good singer.

Abhijeet will not fight anymore

He is known for his firebrand image. Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is also known for the strong emotional bond that he forms with the contestants he judges on talent hunt shows.

But, it was this emotional streak that landed him in a controversy, when recently, he objected to bringing back a non-Indian contestant Musarrat through a wild card entry instead of an Indian. And predictably so, he paid a heavy price for calling a spade a spade. But not anymore, he says in a no-holds-barred tête-à-tête...

Have you sorted out the differences over Pakistani singer Musarrat?

Let me put it this way, why should I become a reformer when no one minds being short changed by what is happening in the industry today. I am not the kind of judge who’d accept Rs 10,000-Rs 20,000 and sit on talent hunt shows that’re being dictated by shoddy scripts written to push up the TRPs. I gave up Rs 70 lakhs to fight for our Indian contestants who are far more talented than the whole world put together. But I will not fight anymore. If contestants’ parents are not bothered about their children’s future, which is being robbed by non-Indians, who am I to stop them?

You really feel our kids’ future is being robbed by participants from abroad?

Hundred per cent. Just watch when the auditions happen, where kids stand in long lines for days hoping to get selected. But participants from Pakistan are put on a flight and given direct entry into these shows, why? Kya khasiyat hai inme? Hindustan ke galli-galli mein Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan mil jayega, but unki koi kadar nahin. Par ek Pakistan se aa gaya toh humne usse sar pe utha liya.

You don’t think there is any talent in Pakistan?

Aatif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and hundred others are nothing compared to our singers like Javed Ali, Soham, Bulli, Raja Hassan, but no one wants to give them a chance. They say I am biased if I reprimand Musarrat – because he’s a Pakistani, but they don’t mind if I shout at Raja Hassan because he is an Indian. What sort of hypocrisy is this?

You have been very vocal over the choice of Musarrat?

I have always said that our children should be given first preference. But desh ki maryada ko dao pe lagana aaj kal fashion ho gaya hai. I don’t know why do we have such a complex when it comes to shoving Pakistan back to where it belongs – the other side of the border?

But not everyone agrees with your stand?

Yes, I have been fighting alone for seven-eight years in this industry. But it’s a shame that as Indians we have such a low regard for our nationality when it comes to protecting our kids’ welfare. So now, I too have decided not to make a hue and cry about it.

What upsets you the most about the music industry today?

No other country will allow foreigners to work and earn so freely as we allow them here. They come here, earn crores, build assets, but does our government bother to check if they pay tax? Why are the Advanis, Karats, Mulayams and Kalams, all quiet over this? If I want to make a living in the US or the UK I need a working permit, while in Pakistan we are not even allowed to enter the country. Then why are we so large-hearted in the glamor and entertainment industry.

Sonu Nigam Gets Attacked!!!

Sonu Nigam was recently performing in Mumbai when a fan attacked the star.. well not really attacked but definitely took him by surprise… she was all over the crooner and just couldn't stop hugging and kissing the father of one!

And when security tried peeling her off the singer she ended up scratching the singer… this reminds us of the time when Enrique Iglesias was performing in the city and a fan ran up and copped a kiss off him… but you know Enrique we SO understand… but Sonu??!!

Please enjoy the pics of this incident on here:

Friends,

WORLD GUJARATI CONFERENCE is being held in New Jersey from 29th August to 1st September. This is basically a show of BJP forces which are strongest in US.

Normally I keep away from such news but my attention got riveted to the news clip on seeing one name.
That name belongs to aishwarya majumdar.
Not because she is newsworthy but I brought this up because in SVOICU blog, I had remarked once that aish has political backing.

Gajji has released aishwarya from her contract with Saibaba telefilms to attend this conference and sing and it must be free of charge due to political affiliation.

So I think I have been proved right in my past statement.

Anupama will not get any public votes even if she comes to voting stage. This is a youth based show and young people should be main candidates. Thta's just my view.:)

@Antar - Regarding Abhijeet's opinion, I only agree to one point. The foreigners should be pay the taxes on what they are earning. I am surprised to know that they don't pay tax to Indian government. I really doubt that. But if it is true, there should be some system to get the tax from them. We also work in the US/UK and pay taxes to the local government. So, why not the pakistanis?

Regarding my cousin Alok:
Woh ek ghanghor galatfahmi ka shikaar ho gaya hai ki woh Bhagwan Krishna ka avtaar hai. Isliye jahaan bhi koi Vineet ka cheerharan karta hai, woh Krishna Bhagwan ki tarah sudarshan chakra le kar pahunch jaata hai Vineet ka cheerharan rokne ke liye. "Yada Yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharatam" geet gaata hua.

I do hope manisha, naina, pratibha among the girls make it to voting stage. among boys I would hope for Arshad, sunvinder, shashi and zaheed. Yashita is also good...
You know I think they eliminated manisha and sayon so that votes don't get divided from bengal. but debo really WON'T get votes either way...he is over hyped and there is a certain 'lisp' to his singing which is irritating...

Antar said...

Neel,

I completely agree with you except few things.

1. There might a chance for Jeffry to come back (I also like to see him) but not Manisha.

2. You said Yashita is also good but believe me she is simply excellent.

But one thing is for sure, Debo is over hyped.

To me (Basically I would like to see) the final 12 will be:

* Shashi Suman
* Arshad
* Debojeet
* Sunvinder
* Zaheer
* Shujat
* Fareed
* Faraz
* Yashita
* Pratibha
* Naina
* Sara

Mark my words, it's almost gonna happen.

Hemant,

I didn't mention Runa Laila's name because she is from my country but why she is in the legendary singer's list let me describe you:

Runa Laila:

Runa Laila (Bengali: রুনা লায়লা)) is a popular singer of Bangladeshi origin. Although in her home country, she is best known for her pop songs, she is a very well-known Ghazal singer in the rest of Indian subcontinent South Asia. She did playback for many movies in Bangladesh and India and, before the independence of Bangladesh, in Pakistan. She is especially known for her song "Dama Dam Mast Qalandar, Mera Babu Chhail Chhabeela Main to Nachoongigi", which has been covered by numerous artists. In India, she is the Dama dam girl, who almost posed a threat to the near-monopoly of the invincible singing sisters of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsale. Runa was an over-night hit when she made a sensational entry into the Hindi filmdom with her Ek Se Badkar Ek which she sang for the film Ek Se Badkar Ek in 1974. Music lovers all over India were swinging to the rhythmic beat of Dama Dam Mast Qalander. Her songs in Gharonda, which was released later, also went down very well with Indian audience. After that she withdrew from Mumbai, but still remained popular in India. Some of the Bollywood films she sang are Gharonda, Ek se Badh kar Ek, Yadgaar, Agnipath. Some of the music directors she has worked with are Jaidev, Kalyanji Anandji, Bhappi Lahiri.

Runa can sing in seventeen languages. Besides her native Bengali, she is also proficient in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindi, Gujrati, Poshtu, Baluchi, Arabic, Persian, Malay, Nepalese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, French and of course in the English language. Runa Laila has also earned wide fame for her stage and TV performances, specially in Pakistan, where Runa Laila is considered as their own.

Runa has sung and recorded well over 5000 songs to date. She will feature in the Guinness Book of Records for recording the largest number of songs in a single day. This happened in Bombay, where she cut four albums recording 40 songs: 30 of these in three days.

Besided being a household name in her home country, Bangladesh, she is famous in neighboring India and Pakistan too. She is also well known among the Asian expatriates all over the world, including the United States, Europe and the Middle East and Far East.

In India, she is the Dama dam girl, who almost posed a threat to the near-monopoly of the invincible singing sisters of Lata Mangeskar and Asha Bhosle. After that she withdrew from Bombay, but still remained popular in the south Asian country. She has since made occasional forays to the "Hollywood of the East" to make albums, all of which turned out to be best-sellers. Her toe-tapping "Super-Runa", which she cut for EMI Music Company along with Bappi Lahiri, has won her gold and platinum discs. She recorded "Loves of RUna Laila", with celebrated film music director of Pakistan Nayyar which has gone double platinum. She has recorded in some more Hindi films since including "Jane-Bahar", "Sapan Ka Mandir" and the Amitabh Bachchan starred "Agni Path".

Runa has travelled to several parts of the world to give performances. She has had concerts in North America and Canada many times and had given recitals at the Kennedy Center in Washington and at the Lincoln Center and Madison Square Gardens in New York. In London, Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena and Wembley Conference Center have been venues for her successful programs many times. She has also performed in many other parts of the world, including Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Nepal, Malaysia, Holland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Sweden, Oman, Doha, India and Pakistan. She has also done a lot of charity concerts all over the world for several worthwhile causes.

During her long and distinguished career in music, she has received around 150 awards in various countries. They include the Saigal Award in India, Nigar Award (twice), Critics Award, Graduate Award (twice) as well as gold medals by the National Council of Music as the best singer of the year in Pakistan and the Independence Day Award and National Film Award (twice) in Bangladesh.

Antar da,

First of all music has no barriers. Music is timeless, boundery less and sublime.

Runa Laila is no doubt a very famous singer (More in Bengali than in most of the other languages) yet, if you ask 100 people to give out the choice of top five singers who can be called legendary, she may not find her place in top five.

It is other story that she has given some of the most memorable songs like "Allah Megh De", Damadam Mast Kalandar etc.

Nazia Hasan was one film sensetion with QURBANI songs.She was London based Pakistani girl who had never dreamt to become a singer. Though she sang in many films, but that does not qualify her to be a legend. Runa Di is much much higher .Unfortunately Nazia died young.

But she was a FLAT singer IMHO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DXPDL-ctLE

I chose her 'Disco Deewane" rendering at random from yOU TUBE.
Her voice lacks Kampan (what people call as Healthy vibrato."

So I would not put her in top ten list also.

I already have all the music video's of Nazia in my collection. By the way , there may be a question to listed Nazia in the top 5 but not Runa Laila. According me, legendary means the creation which people will always remember and I think people will never forget Dama Dam Mast Qalander of Runa Laila as she immortalized it. To me she is a living legend.

How come you didn't pick classicaly tarined singers like Pratibha and shashi Suman? Granted they will not set the cash regsiters ringing...nor keep the moolah-greedy producers happy...but they represent a certain section who have actually taken time and effort to train themslves. I know thye may not actually be as easy on the ears as certain NON trained ingers...that's why i feel musical reality shows does not really have a place for classical stuff any more. Now its about voice quality, about presenattion, being able to sing hip-hop...but I guess a part of me still rmemebers the old days of saregama..when I am SURE pratibha and shashi would ahve fought it out in the finals. That's why i include them in top 5...even in thsi present state of affairs and dumbind down of music...they can't be written off completely.

She lost the sur completely in one place just around Mukhada ending.(1.28) and was tentetive in Antara in a couple of lines.(1.50 to 1.58)

Her throat does not seem to obey at times.

She does have a good voice but I think she lacks riaz.And it is evident in her this song.

When she sings higher notes, her problem becomes very evident.

Those who hve been to those 2 sites will recognize me as a most committed fan of Aishwarya tho I'm not against Anwesha. Nothing and nobody will make me change this preference.

So it will be my request to you, start watching SRGMP instead of that worlds one of the worst musical show, SVOI2 (The first place always reserved for Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar).

@All,

I'm grateful to so many of u for giving me a warm welcome. Much appreciated. This one's a long post

but I request all, esp Hemant da, to read it patiently till the end. Thanks.

First off, let me say that it's great that 2 fantastic GEMS have emerged from a single reality

show. The 2 A's are God's gift to the world of Indian music. Also, Indian music industry, even the

film industry, is big enough to accomodate both, so supporters don't have to feel insecure abt

their favourite.

Regarding the 2 A's, I'd like to base my comments totally from a PLAYBACK point of view (that is,

how each of them would fare as a playback singer,I mean in a recording studio) and not consider

them as stage performers (how well they can dance, etc).

I'd like to put down a few basic thoughts. I request you all to be patient with me and go through

this.

The first and most important thing that one needs to be a singer (bathroom or playback) or even to

be able to enjoy music is the presence of the music gene in your blood. And anyone who can enjoy

music can also sing (although voice may not be good). I don't think you can love music and not be a

reasonable singer as well. (I'm sure all ppl visiting this and other music blogs have this). Why

I'm saying this will become apparent next.

Many ppl talk abt training in music, trained singer, etc. By training if they mean that you need a

teacher or Guru to become a singer, NO. Formal teaching is not required to make a singer. If you

don't have music in your blood a lifetime of training (with a teacher) will only make you collect a

few coins in a train or bus (or you might get thrown out of the train or bus) Formal knowledge of

music is also completely useless to become a singer. If you know the name of every raag in the

book, it won't help in any way in your singing. Assuming one has the music gene in the blood, to

sing any song, all you need is to play the original song over and over, then sing it over and over

till you get it right. And you don't need a Guru to tell you if ur offkey. The singer

himself/herself can detect instantly the moment they go wrong. But practice is a must. The more you

practice, the better you get. Training NO, practice YES.
The only aspect in which a teacher may, just may be able to give some help is in breath control,

even here I think the individual can experiment and learn by himself.

Music is instinctive and not by the book. Even for those who create music (composers and music

directors) a knowledge of the book of music is of no use whatsoever.

Like everything else in the world, music is also relative.It's all individual perceptions and

preferences.
Antar said
"Whatever everyone thinks doesn't matter as the universal truth is Anwesha is 1000 times better

than Aishwarya."
With due respect, Antarji, there's no universal truth in music.
When I listen to a song, it's just instinctive whether I like it or dislike it ( same goes for

everyone). I don't care what raag it's been sung, etc. When I listen to a song of Anwesha or Aish,

I just instinctively like or dislike it ( I can't think of any song I've disliked for the 2 A's,

it's only different degrees of liking). I NEVER compare with the original. I don't even attempt to

listen to the original. Of course it it's exactly like the original and the original was a hit,

this one's also bound to be a hit.
Let me digress a little. I like the songs of the golden era, 60s 70s and 80s. I've hardly heard any

songs of the current time.
But many present day songs sung by the 2 As have become my favourites but to this day I've never

felt the need to hear the original. When they sing one of the golden era songs, I may remark that

it's just like the original but that doesn't add anything extra.

Here I'd like to respond to one statement by Do svidaniya that Aish (and Ritisha) always has the

tendency to stick to comfort zone. I've heard this many times esp. from Anu fans. It's completely

over my head what it means. Does it mean Aish selects only easy songs? That's not true, Aish has a

long list of tough songs also (equal to Anu). Does it mean that Aish selects songs suiting her

strength? Nothing wrong with that. It's foolish to select songs which doesn't suit ur singing and

murder it in the process. Lataji sang hundreds of songs of the same type and was successful. BTW,

Anu selected most of her songs to her strength i.e. classical based. BTW, Aish has selected wide

variety of songs like Ghazal, classical, pop, etc. Whether it's comfort zone or not, the final test

is whether it's good to hear.

I'm aware that I'm the ONLY Aish fan on this blog (I hope I'm wrong). I'm also aware that the

moment I open my mouth abt Aish, everyone will jump on me and I'll be drowned in a sea of counter

arguments. There may be some KVN bashing along with Aish bashing. But I don't mind any of it. At

the end of it my views are not going to budge even by half a hair width. I know that the Anu

supporters also will not change.

Then why shd we have the debate?

1.Just to express our views and exercise freedom of speech tho it may not change anything.

2.There may be some visitors and others who r undecided. After reading the posts, they may be

motivated to take a look at Aish and Anu's singing from our perspective and then make their own

decision.

Hemant Da, I haven't started the debate yet. I have a suggestion to the organizers of this blog. I

suggest u to start a new thread (to be called "A Se Badhkar A" or "The 2A's" or anything) or better

still, to start a new blog ASeBadhkarA.blogspot.com.
That way, all comments about 2A's will be in one place. Because next week, no one will read this

thread. Ppl interested in SRGMP shd not be forced to read all this.
Once word gets around, I'm sure the new blog will be a hit. Later u can add links to new songs,

information about albums,etc about the 2 A's. I know that there are individual fan sites, but no

combined one.

Finally, someone asked (Do svidaniya) whether I'm a trained EXPERT. I'm no music expert (far from

it) but I'm not musically challenged either.

I know this post was so long. Thanks for being patient with me. I'd love to see the new blog become

a reality and start the debate there.

Thanks.

KVN,

Thanx for the detailed post.

Our basic contention is not degrading aishwarya majumdar but the very fact that systematic downplaying a superior singer and predetermini ng the winner of a lopsided contest called SVOICU.

The whole of India who voted, the contestants and everyone was taken for a royal ride by one man army called Gajji.

We , the die hard fans are throwing open an open challenge to Gajji to publicize
1) Un-Edited versions/portions of the whole contest.
2) Truthful voting figures .

There are so many things that were manipulated to declare a singlr average singer (don;t jump please at this.)
Sonya, Gitashree IMHO had more control of sur and sweetness compared to aish but were literally deleted by a single strike.

The world needs to know the truth.
Since you might not have known all the facts,We will strive to bring things to light.
That is the reason why I want you to name songs after songs between two A's , episode by episode and I will show you who did better in each episode.

No we are not blind and stupid brainless fans of Anweshaa that we will jump on you.

Let me tell you one thing that even Antar, Goofy or for that anyone does not know about me.

I am the grandson of a legendary Sama Veda Gana maharathi who was honoured by All the Shankaracharyas of India and Govt. Of India , Andhra, Gujarat etc.

Why I am writing this here?
Because My Grandfather was the one who explained the real origin of SAREGAMAPADHANI to Pandit Omkarnath Thakur who specially travelled to my small village after hearing about my grandfather who could sing whole of Sama veda by heart.

Pandit Omkarnath though a very famous and wonderful classical singer, was in eternal search of real meaning and origin of saptaswaras.

He was so much enthralled at the revealation that he wrote a specail Abhinandan patra and sent it to him.

I have not had any formal training in sangit but I do have what it takes to know the difference between Ruby and Garnet.

I aim to post a lot of info about music, from time to time on this blog.
And I will strive to put things in right perspective.

So let the flow start my friend.

If you are game, then let us start.

Many times this debate has taken place on various blogs whether Anwesha is better or Aishwarya. Many times it has also resulted into ugly ending of the debate. You have rightly suggested that a separate blog dedicated to these two excellent girls would be a better place for fighting it out there. I, for sure, and many other casual visitors on SRGMP or SVOI2 blog may not have any renewed interest to know who is better between these two.

I have seen many excellent child artists getting lost in oblivion after they grow up for many reasons e.g. lack of practice, lack of godfather, lack of parental support etc. Leave singing artists for a moment, have we not seen the fate of almost all the child actors e.g. Tabassum onwards, after they grew up? What could they achieve?

Let us leave this never-ending debate once and for all, and move ahead with the current programmes.

No one has ever won such type of an argument. Everyone and everyone else is free to have an opinion which should be respected and NOT debated.

Dear Sangita Rasikas,

I have been doing research in astrology and other cosmic powers.
Under that, I have done work on deeper meaning of SAPTASWARAS or the Saragam of music with reference to its astrological connection.
Please read it as under.

VARNAMALA-RASHI –SAPTASWARS AND THEIR IMPORTANCE

If we have to work with Nodal concept or RAHU CENTRIC THEORY, our outlook towards Rahu will have to be changed.It is high time we stopped looking at Rahu as a Demon, Asura, Northern node of Moon etc.
Rahu-Ketu according to me represent a larger system ,a SUPER SYSTEM, a Beginning to End Process. It is a Process Flow Chart which is omnipresent in any universe.
To understand Rahu-Ketu,or the central cosmic /magnetic/attracting force or power the best example that I can give is that of a FLUTE.

Lord Krishna's flute is there with a deep meaning.
The end through which air is Blown is Rahu and end wbich does not take part in any note at the other end is Ketu.

When air is blown compressing all the six holes , a Nada of Sa .. note is heard. This is the beginning and when all the fingers covering all holes are lifted , Ni.....Note is heard.

You may ask why is the example of a flute necessary.
Well we will come to that now.

I always say that my Japanese Teacher Ono San has taught me a lesson which says that whenever you have a problem, Go back to basics. Think logically.

So I went back to basics.
While working on Varnada Lagna, I have done some work on Varna Mala and being a devotee of Lalita MahaTripurSundari for over 40 years, find all my answers in her and with her divine guidence.

Kali roopa of Ma devours even Kaal. Shiva who is deathly white lies beneath her feet in supine pose .

Maha Kali adorns 51 skulls as Garland . These skulls are alphabet letters of Sanskrit Varnamala numbering 51. Everything in this universe is devoured by Kalika including Mahakaal but she does not do so for Varnas. She has given special place of pride on her body as a Garland of Letters.
All letters are Mantras in themselves and are careers of Thought, Meaning and Nada.which is nothing but icchashakti, Gyan shakti and Kriya shakti.

All creations in visual and Mass form arise out of these three shaktis.
The tantras say that Varnas can never be destroyed. They are shashwat or permanent. Knowledge has been passed on, is being passed on and will be passed on from generation to generations in this universe or in any universe at any given point of time and space by Nada/Dhvani using varna only.

These varnas are divided among twelve rasis and have special peetha or seat in our body.Our body is small universe.

Each Varna is coiled around by a coil of Kundalini Shakti. Each coil surrounding each varna is called KUNDALI.

(Maha Shakti Kundalini Bisa tantu taniyasi)

So varnas have to be studied in astrological context with Rashi.

So what is a RASHI?
Rashi stands for Ra=Rahu
Shi=(Shikhi) =Ketu.

In this Brahmanda, or any other Brahmanda at any time , the power of Maha Kali lies in a RASHI.

All letters or Varnas are strung to her through NADA SWARA which sounds like HUM.(Hum Hum Humkaar Roopaye) She wears RASHI MALA which is nothing but powerful attraction power which holds all Varnas together.This is the super power,
which is the Power of Attraction/Krishna/Super Magnetism/Cosmic or whatever you want to call it as. This power works in 4 directions. North/south East-West.
Of this, North south is extremely powerful power.
(Hum Hum Hum Kaar Rupaye)
To understand this distribution of power which lies in Varnamala, we need to look at Rashi kundali as follows.

The beginning is from
Muladhara which is governed by Vrischika Rashi.. 8th house.Muladhara is the place where,KUNDALINI lies in Sushuptavastha in Vrischika Rasi and when it is Jagrita or Awake, the Serpent Power uncoils and her journey starts from Nabhi to Brahmarandhra.

So we should start from 7th house of a Kundali.

SA MEANS Saptama Stri sthana 7th house...Nabhi
RI MEANS Ripu sthana the 6th house.
GA MEANS Garbha sthana , the 5th house...Udara
MA MEANS Matrusthana the 4th house.......Hridaya
PA MEANS Parakrama sthana the 3rd house..Kantha
DHA MEANS Dhana sthana the 2nd house......Mukha
NI MEANS Nija , self house the First house. Ajna Chakra
SA of II octave MEANS 12TH HOUSE the SAIYA SUKHA STHANA house
where Rahu devours Ketu again....Brahmarandhra.

Look at all the houses....they are in Northern Hemisphere which is direction or dark half of kundali belonging to Rahu.

It would be interesting to note that we can apply the above concept in explaining many things.
Harmony and its importance in life, Astrology, Music etc is of prime importance.
SUR.....Means life giver or Devas
Asur....Means life taker or Danava.

Above concept of SUR and ASUR is nothing but Harmony and Dis-Harmony.
Savya Apasavya Margastha is one of the names of Lalita.
This is the Aroha and Avaroha of Swara.
Twelve Rashis and 27 nakshatras among themselves represent all the Varnas distributed in Varnamala.
Starting from Mesha, the Udyat Lagna, till Meena the 12th house, all Varnas have a fixed place.
Thus , just as Rasis are fixed, Varnas are fixed and this is very important thing to note.
Only movable part in Astrology is PLANETS.
These planets represent the cyclic Swaras or Harmony or /Dis-Harmony in a horoscope by their placements in different Rasis.

More on a later date.

He is a committed fan just like me and it is always wonderful to have your meal with different tasting food varieties.

Anweshaa or aish controversy in actuality is not the bone of contention. As I stated earlier, it is the kabab mein Haddi gajji who thinks he can make or break the career of a person.

There is a wonderful Gujarati Bhajan as under.

"Akhand Roji Hari Na Haath man
Walo Maaro juve chhe vichari
Deva Walo Nathi Dubado Re Bhagwan Nathi re Bhikhari
Akhand Roji Hari Na Haath Man."

Meaning Daily bread is given by God and he holds the reins. He thinks and then gives.
God is neither poor or a begger. (He is a giver)
It is implied that Man may think that he is the provider. But actually he is NOT.

Thanks for your compliments but let me assure you that I am always learning new things and still an Ekalavya.

Thanks

Hemant

I am inpressed that you are a big fan of aishwarya's singing like shambo is. Hemant da, goofy and I have become addicted to Anwesha's voice especially after hearing so many mediocre singers. Aishwarya also is far better than some of them. That's why chote sutaad will always be one of its kinds -it produced such phenomenal singers like anu, ash, geetu, sonia, jaynat and areeb. all of them ahve great potential, and will carry the mantle of music forward. I ahve not enjoyed a musical relaity show like chote ustaad- though SVOI-1 and saregama 2007 were both pretty good!!

I don't want to get into comparisons againa nd again, but as you said nothing is universal and we all have our likes and dislikes

@antar
This year surely saregaam is ahead of SVOI-2. that's mainly because of PRESENTATION more than quality of singersd. quality of singers is average this time on both sides- not as great as last year. som of the singers last year(on both shows) like Abhaas, raja, aneek, poonam, toshi, arshpreet,amanat, irfan, abhilasha can overshadow all the singers this year.
The main problem with SVOI-2 is the quality of judging and detailing is very low. is it actually gaj's trademark show, you wonder? because whatever esle gaj does, he does not compromise on quality.
In saregama it is an entertaining show(though i don't like himesh and aadesh much_ But shankar mhadevan is a very ablanced judge, and eevn pritam is fine. Some of the contestants ahve original voices like shashi,sunvinder,mitika,arshad and fareed,pratibha. all of them are promising. But unlike last year, pakistan is not able to give us a sedond anamt or musharrat. the contestants this year are just abover average from pakistan

Dear Friends,

Everyone agrees that the 2 A's are both precious GEMS of our country. Let's leave it at that. My dream now is to get my hands on a new video album of songs by both of them. To hear original songs from Aish and Anu. How fantastic! I can't wait for that. Truly, I believe that if either one of them was not there, the magic would've been lost.

Hemant Bhai, ur article abt sangit was nice. I respect you as a learned person.

I'd like to continue to visit here and participate .

Thanks.

Rishi Ji,

For your kind info, I had just given an idea as to where I come from. I had my basic understanding of SAMA VEDA which is the mother of Sangita shashtra . I grew up listening to SAMA GANA which he used to chant daily for two to three hours.
Thus it was important that I give the basis of my understanding of saptaswaras .

I would suggest you to first understand the context of the subject matter and then write .

Yes, I have garv but not for myself but for my grandfather who refused to ride an elephant sent by Kanchi Shankaracharya saying that the honour is given to knowledge and not men.

So please chill out.

Hemant ji

Now coming back to point, I must say I am fully aware of the context why you brought your grandpa under reference.

Having said that, I still maintain that for me, bringing such an illustrious human-being as your grandpa into all this, to prove a point, I feel is still unnecessary, whatever be the context.

@Neel,

At some points you are right but I still believe this season SRGMP is better than SVOI2 not only for the presentation but also in the standard of contestants and judges.
I also don't like Himesh & Aadesh but at least they are doing well out their, na.
By the way, you should also add Yashita's name in your list of "Contestants have original voices". She is simply a unique one.

Thanks.

@Rishi Bhaiya,

Hope you are fine. How is everything going on?

Take care.

@all

I was listening to Anwesha on youtube and chanced upon Shreya's medley which she sang in chote sutaad. Well, she was always my fave singer before Anu came on the scene and really after listening to this mdeley, I again realized what a beautiful voice she has. That 'sweetness' and lilting quality, that 'khanak'- well after her can you think of some other singers who have these qualities? Anu has of course...but I mean can anyone really replicate her success? Anu belongs to a more versatile genre...but I realize sweetness is no longer there in many singers' voices nowadays. Here is the link--

Excuse me for butting in, Neel, but you forgot Aishwarya. She doesn't resemble Shreya's voice. She has her own unique voice. But the sweetness, the 'khanaq', the lilt, it's all there.

kvn8,

aishwarya does have a beautiful voice but IMHO, her hold over the swaras is weak. Due to unknown reasons, she tends to slow down the tempo of songs she sings. This might be due to that extra fraction of a second she gets to correct her sur. We don't know exactly but I do feel that this is what brings her performance down.

Just listen to the following song,

aishwarya sang "Pyar Hua Chupakese from 1942 A Love Story..

http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=Trc5tdHHa5w

The starting was slowed down and this is where the slide down started.
At times, I felt that she was dragging the feel of the song.

kyun Naye lag rahe....is where she went total besur..0.39 to 41 again at 2.07

Again she was in between sur in all jumping notes.

This might give you some idea as to what I feel is her drawback.
Otherwise she is a very very fine singer with sweet voice.

Hemant Bhai,

I was very happy to read your words abt Aishwarya.

I'm the first to accept that Aishwarya does have some flaws. Nobody's perfect. But she's only a child and her career's just beginning. I'm sure she'll work on correcting her flaws.

My request to you and all Anwesha fans is to remain fair to Aish.

BTW, the link above is not working for me, so couldn't hear this song.

Nichiro said...

KVN,

aishwarya is a child you said. Anweshaa is one year younger to aish. As told before, we are not against aishwarya who is a kid but against the system called Gajji.
